Now in its sixth year, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018 has established itself as one of the leading trade and consumer lifestyle brands on the food and restaurant calendar in Asia and across the globe. Published and organised by William Reed Business Media, which also publishes The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018 represents the best in gastronomy reaching a global and regional audience of culinary travelers and high-spend consumers through thought leadership, exclusive events and aspirational lifestyle positioning.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was launched in 2013 and takes in six voting regions: India & Subcontinent; South-East Asia – South; South-East Asia – North; Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau; mainland China & Korea; and Japan.
The list is the result of the voting from the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy members, an influential group of over 300 leaders in the restaurant industry across Asia, each selected for their expert opinion of Asia’s restaurant scene. Spread over a number of days, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants comprises a number of invitation only events, including:
• Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy Dinner – a private dinner attended by Academy Chairs
• Asia’s 50 Best Talks - a conference-style event with talks on stage from four of Asia’s 50 Best chefs and bartenders
• Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Chefs’ Feast - a celebratory feast for all the chefs on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants
list, and most importantly
• Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards Ceremony & After Party - a fast-paced ceremony where the list is announced and several special awards are given out.
The list, awards and events provoke a huge amount of discussion and interest across Asia and the world among chefs, media, the wider hospitality industry as well as consumers interested in gastronomy.
CwC was tasked with the overall event management of the three days event. The event was attended by 600 people including Macao Government Officials, Top Chefs, F & B Experts from the industry and media from all around Asia Pacific.
Because of the sheer scale of the event and the breadth of participation by different parties, the success of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018 is not just hinged on operational excellence; a huge part of it is also dependent on how we bring the event theme to live and on exceptional stakeholders management for all the 17 sponsors.
This was also the sixth edition of the event - how do we raise the bar? Besides the main Awards Reception and Ceremony held in the Macao Wynn Palace, Clearwater had to work on the environmental decoration concept in Clube de Militar according to the given theme “The Great Gatsby in 1920s” with only three hours turnaround time on the same event day in the venue. Instead of mega environmental decoration, we came up with different styles of small environmental decoration to bring the event theme to live, and to work around the tight turnaround time.
Clearwater had to liaise with all 17 sponsors for the event, each with their own agenda and objectives, to stage their activations and events during the three days of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants event. CwC had to strike the perfect balance between addressing each of their needs and brief, and provide the necessary support they requested. Managing and balancing the needs of each and every stakeholder is instrumental in the success of the event.
